InnerCHANGE London
Making disciples of Jesus among London’s poor and marginalised
London is the most multicultural city in the world. It is a city of immigrants and refugees, a city with the world at its door.
Poverty in the East End of London is notorious, dating back to the days of Charles Dickens. For centuries, East London has been a landing place for new immigrants, for people on the margins, for people trying to get on their feet. This has not been without tension. The Borough of Tower Hamlets has some of the highest levels of child poverty in the UK, with rates above 50% (‘End Child Poverty’ 2020/21).
The InnerCHANGE London team was launched in 2007 by two families who relocated to Tower Hamlets. The team has since grown and is now spread across 2 locations in East London, living & serving amongst a predominantly Bangladeshi-Muslim community.
Ministry
The team in London makes disciples of Jesus using prayer, Discovery Bible Studies, and community meals as tools to reach those who are on the margins of society (eg. Muslims, asylum seekers, and the recovery community) and unlikely to attend local church activities.
The team's activities include:
Facilitating Bible studies linked to recovery groups and for asylum seekers, with guests from around the globe
Teaching English language classes
Being good neighbours — investing relationally in both the lives of our neighbours and the development of the local community
Reaching out to families — particularly those who are suffering and in crisis
Advocacy on behalf of those who need help raising their voice
Empowering the local church and its members to become actively involved in the lives of the needy: assisting the local church in understanding the needs of the local context; helping local Christians see the neighbourhood as a mission ground
Who are we looking for?
We are people with a heart for those on the margins of society.
We will consider anyone who feels called to serve on the East London team.
We would love to work alongside more young, single people, as well as people in their 50s-60s+.
We are also looking to create a greater ethnic and cultural diversity within the team.
